USCIS Will Soon Make Changes To Naturalization Exam
USCIS has said that it is working on making changes to the naturalization (citizenship) exam. The changes will occur on both the English and the civics portions of the exam. The English exams consists of reading, speaking, and writing in the English language. The Civics portion of the exam includes answering 10 questions out of 100 (in most cases) in U.S. history and government.
USCIS last updated the naturalization exam in 2009. The current changes are said to possibly take effect in late 2020 or early 2021. However, USCIS will be administering pilot tests of the new exam in several unknown locations in the fall of 2019.
It is thought that this administration will likely make the exam more difficult for applicants, leading to an increase in denials. Potential applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible if they are eligible to avoid the increase in difficulty in the naturalization exam.
