The unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic continue. Michigan has been hit hard by the virus and it has leadto an extension of Governor Whitmer’s extreme measures to keep the numbers down. We are now meant to “stay home and stay safe” until at least April 30. Given the trends, it could last longer. Here, at the Law Offices of Joumana Kayrouz, we are working tirelessly and remotely to take care of our client as best we can. Below are some frequently asked questions with advice:
1. Should I make telephone appointments with my doctor? Will the insurance company cover it?
The short answer is yes. You should definitely do whatever you can to make sure your health is addressed. Telephone doctor appointments will allow you to at least obtain advice from your doctor regarding your injuries. They can also prescribe medication if you have run out. With regard to the auto insurance payment, it is likely they will try to avoid payment, as they always do. Nonetheless, I think there is a valid argument for unreasonable denial and would be subject to a law suit. The Michigan No Fault statute requires auto insurance companies to pay for reasonable and necessary medical treatment.
2. My physical therapy office is closed. What do I do to heal?
This has been an unfortunate result of the COVID-19 crisis. All non-emergency medical facilities/appointments are prohibited. This means a lot of auto accident victims are unable to undergo physical therapy. In this instance, I would highly recommend that you request some home exercises from your physical therapist. It will not be as effective as physical therapy, but it may at least hold you over until the restrictions are lifted and you can return to care at the facility.
