The Department of State has Sped Up Travel Ban Waiver Adjudications
The Department of State started automating its time intensive manual security check, which it said has sped up the Travel Ban waiver review process. The Department has also noted that waiver approvals have double in the last two months since the automation process began. Although there is a 17,000-case backlog, the department hopes that it will get through the backlog within the next six months.
However, it is important to note that approvals for waivers remain low, considering that only 10% have been approved as reported by the state department.
Citizens from Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen must face the Travel ban when they wish to apply for a visa and still face a significant hurdle in obtaining an approval.
