MICHIGAN: WHAT’S GOOD FOR THE GOOSE IS BAD FOR THE GANDER

MICHIGAN: WHAT’S GOOD FOR THE GOOSE IS BAD FOR THE GANDER
If you believe that there are more insurance companies and employers versus the number of workers in the State of Michigan, than this is great news for everyone. I’m being sarcastic.
Last week I wrote about how and why the Worker’s Compensation Disability Act came into being and the graces it bestowed on both the injured worker and the companies they worked for. Today’s message is more somber as we explore how rights and benefits for the worker has dramatically declined as a result of the powerful insurance industry.
In 2009 insurance companies paid over $ 597,000,000.00 in claims to injured workers. Companies that were self-insured paid $ 365,486,172.00 and medical care payouts were $ 527,030,615.00, totaling $ 1,490,014,074.00 paid to injured workers.
By 2018, insurance companies only paid $ 280,000,000.00 in claims. Following these vast reductions, self-insured employers paid $ 176,581,655.00 and medical care payouts were $ 446,700,852.00 totaling $ 896,200,171.00 paid to injured workers.
The message is a stark indication of how changes in legislation ratified and enforced by conservative executive administrations destroy workers’ rights.
IN LESS THAN 10 YEARS THERE HAS BEEN A DROP OF OVER 40% OF BENEFITS PAID TO INJURED WORKERS!!!
Another indication of how the injured worker was affected is the reduction of filings in the workers compensation agency. In 2008 injured workers filed 10,368 contested claims. In 2018 only 5,551 claims were filed.
IN LESS THAN 10 YEARS THERE HAS BEEN A 47% DROP IN CASES BEING FILED IN THE WORKERS’ COMPENSATION AGENCY!!!
AT THE LAW OFFICES OF JOUMANA KAYROUZ, PLLC WE REFUSE TO BE A PART OF THAT TREND. WE UNDERSTAND HOW DEVASTATING UNPAID MEDICAL EXPENSES AND LOST WAGES CAN BE.
WE REMAIN COMMITTED TO REPRESENTING THE INJURED WORKER AND OBTAINING THE MAXIMUM BENEFITS ON HIS OR HER BEHALF INCLUDING
1. LOST WAGE BENEFITS
2. PAYMENT OF MEDICAL EXPENSES AND
3. OBTAINING VOCATIONAL SERVICES.
