​There is now doubt we are currently facing unprecedented time. With the global spread of COVID-19, extreme measures have been put in place to avoid the spread. Among those measures are the many Executive Orders decreed by Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Most recently, Governor Whitmer declared that all non-essential businesses are to close. That Order may have a dramatic impact on your case. Here are a couple of the ways we have observed in the past couple of weeks:

• Court Closures:

Governor Whitmer’s order specifically states that non-emergency hearings are to be postponed until after April 13, 2020. This has caused each court to undergo drastic measures. Namely, Wayne County Circuit Court has already declared that all scheduling orders are to be adjourned sixty days. This means that if you have a case in Wayne County, all discovery, case evaluation, and settlement conferences are going to take place at least sixty days later. This will cause some delays in the prosecution of your case.

• Independent Medical Examinations:

Since Governor Whitmer’s Order, we have seen acancellation all Independent Medical Examinations scheduled through April 13, 2020. This is positive. This delays the insurance companies’ opportunities to delay providing you coverage or finding a reason not to pay.

We are finding all the positives in these events as many Insurance attorneys are also working remotely and are easier to communicate with on a daily basis.
